Meet Ade Coker, Day Service Assistant at CSA

April 19, 2023

How long have you worked at Camphill School Aberdeen?

I have been working at Camphill since April 2022.

What brought you to Camphill School Aberdeen?

I was attracted to Camphill by its welcoming community and its kind atmosphere. The countless job roles and volunteering opportunities means that people from all walks of life have the chance to come and work at Camphill, supporting all the children and young adults, all while feeling a sense of belonging and achievement.

What does your role at Camphill School Aberdeen Consist of?

Being a Learning for Life Day Services Workshop Assistant means that my role is really varied. No two days are the same, but I can confidently say that this is what makes me enjoy my job. As all students have a personalised timetable to suit their needs, my role is to ensure that their needs are being met and are achieving their full potential. Camphill’s learning for life workshops enables students to develop skills they can use in all aspects of their life, and I spend my days supporting young adults in their workshops.

Playing games, singing and dancing during rest hour in the hub, harvesting vegetables in the garden, and attending the STARS Awards are just a few of things my job involves, along with much more exciting activities.

Are there any key highlights that stand out for you during your time in Camphill School Aberdeen?

There are so many highlights that come to mind, but my favourite one has to be the Comic Relief football match we had in March 2023. Everyone from Murtle Estate and students from Cairnlee all came together to enjoy a students vs staff football match. It was a very memorable morning, with everyone coming together to raise money for a meaningful charity, all while having fun.

How much of a difference will the capital appeal campaign, when complete, make to students and their families at Camphill School Aberdeen?

The capital appeal will have such a positive impact by helping CSA to provide more accommodation and placement opportunities for young adults with additional needs and help them to learn new skills, make new friends and promote independence. Once complete, it will provide safe spaces where families know they can send their young adults to and know that they will always be cared for and nurtured
