Meet Moshood, Assistant House Coordinator, Murtle Estate

Meet Moshood. After working in marketing and creative brand design, he made the move into care through a charity project supporting older adults. He joined Camphill School Aberdeen in December 2022 as an Additional Support Needs worker at St Andrew’s House and has since progressed to Assistant House Coordinator at Robert Owen House.

Drawing on his creative background and experience in care, Moshood is passionate about supporting young people and creating a welcoming, supportive home for everyone at Robert Owen House.

1.      How long have you been working at Camphill School Aberdeen, and what was your first role?

I joined Camphill School Aberdeen in December 2022, starting out as an Additional Support Needs worker at St. Andrew's House.

2.      What were you doing before joining Camphill School Aberdeen, and what first brought you to Camphill?

I had worked as a Marketer in manufacturing and as a creative brand designer in the marketing industry, before moving into a charity project supporting older adults. This was my first taste of care work. I first heard about Camphill through my best friend, who'd worked here before. Hearing him talk about the work, the depth of it, the community around it, I fell in love with the idea almost immediately. I applied not long after, and the rest is history.

3.      You’re now an Assistant House Coordinator at Robert Owen House. Can you tell me about your journey from your first role at Camphill to where you are today?

The journey from ASN worker to Senior, and now Assistant House Coordinator, has really been driven by my love for the young people we support. I enjoy the real, day-to-day interaction with them, and there's a particular kind of joy in watching them work towards their goals and take steps toward their potential. Camphill became my safe space. I start each day motivated to make sure the house is running well and that everyone in it feels supported.

4.      What does your role as Assistant House Coordinator involve, and what does a typical day in Robert Owen House look like?

A typical day is centred on meeting the needs of our young people, creating opportunities for them, supporting and motivating my colleagues, and doing the planning that keeps the house running smoothly. Beyond the practical side, a big part of it is making sure the house feels homely and a genuinely supportive environment for the young people, staff and volunteers.

5.      What do you enjoy most about working in RobertOwen House?

What I enjoy most is the young people we support and the lovely people I work with. The small, shared moments, like mealtimes and everyday living, are what really make it special.

Across Camphill School, I love the social events. They really reinforce the sense of community here, and I enjoy the workshops with the students too. There's something special about a workplace that's built around shared culture rather than just shared tasks.

6.      Is there a particular moment or memory from your time at Camphill that stands out to you?

What stands out most for me is when a parent/guardian shares their joy with us after discovering their youngster has learned to do something new, something we've been quietly working toward together. That moment of progress means so much more to the parent than it might seem to anyone else, and being part of the team that helped get them there is a feeling I don't think I'll ever get used to, in the best way.

7.      What advice would you give to someone considering a career at Camphill School Aberdeen?

If you're looking for a career that makes you genuinely happy through helping others, and a place that supports you in return, come to Camphill. It gives back what you put into it.

8.      When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?

Outside of work, traditional music makes me feel alive, and I make sure to carve out proper time with family.
