BA Honours Programme in Curative Education

Course structure and content

During Stage I the focus of learning is on the care and support of pupils with complex needs. You will live in family units with pupils, residents and co-workers, and gain practical care skills under the direct supervision of experienced Curative Educators. This important avenue of experiential learning aims to develop your abilities to form sensitive, empathic relationships with the children, and to acquire the skills of responsible care management through the day-to-day activities of the extended family within your designated house. This forms the basis of the first stage practice, theory teaching and assessment.

In Stage II the focus widens to the experience of and assessment in more than one area of Curative Education, for example therapeutic activities, crafts or classroom education, whilst deepening the theoretical knowledge of Curative Education.

In Stage III you will be asked to take on wider responsibilities in the Community/workplace, such as organizing leisure or cultural activities, and begin to participate in management tasks within the organisation. You will also have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and practice skill in one particular area of Curative Education and engage in relevant research activities.

During Stage IV you will continue to carry practical tasks whilst engaging in a research project.
